Wales fire break Lockdown

UPDATE – 22nd October 2020
We now have confirmation that Bicycle shops are permitted to remain open during the National Lockdown. Our current information from National Resources Wales also is that the bike trails and car park will remain open, although the Visitor Centre and Cafe will CLOSE.
Information issued by the Welsh Government states that during the lockdown period people can continue to cycle and there is no limit on the amount of time that you can exercise for. People are however requested to only undertake exercise that begins and ends from their own home and individuals should not travel by car in order to exercise. It is also requested that people do not undertake and exercise that could potentially put them at greater risk of an accident or injury due to the additional strain on health services at present.
Full information on lockdown and travel restrictions can be found on the Welsh Government Fire Break Lockdown FAQ page.
BIKE HIRE – Will be unavailable Saturday 24th October to Sunday 8th November, with bookings being accepted from Monday 9th November. If you have booked a hire during this period please get in touch, we can re book on a future date or issue a full refund.
BIKE SHOP – As bike shops are permitted to remain open, Beics Brenin will be open as normal for bike essentials and spares. There may also be limited availability for emergency or essential workshop services that cannot be deferred until after the lockdown period. There is NO DROP IN SERVICING and booking would be absolutely essential – please get in contact to discuss.
UPDATE – 21st October 2020
Wales will enter a national fire break lockdown from 6pm on Friday 23rd October. At this time we do not have a clear idea if this means will can remain open for essentials or will have to close. During the first lockdown, cycle shops were permitted to remain open but we were forced to close as NRW closed the whole site and trails at Coed y Brenin. So far Natural Resources Wales seem keen to keep the trails and car park open even though they have confirmed that the Visitor Centre and Café will definitely close. Until we have confirmation of what businesses will be permitted to stay open during the fire break lockdown we cannot confirm if the shop will remain open. We will update this page as soon as we have more information.
17th October 2020
With changes to Covid restrictions happening in the UK and Wales are receiving quite a few enquiries regarding the booking and availability of bike hire for the coming half term holiday period. At present the Welsh Government are discussing, among other options a possible Wales-wide ‘Circuit Breaker’ style lockdown to reduce the number of cases. If this option is chosen it is likely to mean that hospitality businesses such as ours may be forced to close for several weeks and this may take place during the half term holiday period.
Wales First Minister is due to make an announcement on Monday 17th October so we should have more information then, but for now our booking system remains open and we are accepting booking for the half term period which can be a busy time. We continue to plan for a normal half term in the hope that we are able to remain open as cycling in an outdoor location such as Coed y Brenin remains a relatively low risk activity that brings many other benefits for health and wellbeing.
If you are thinking of visiting Coed y Brenin and hiring from us over the half term period we still advice that you book bikes ahead using our online booking system as half term can be a busy time and if we are open it is likely to be busy.
We continue to offer a Lockdown Guarantee that means you can book with confidence in the knowledge that we guarantee to refund any booking that cannot be taken due to lockdown travel restrictions. Likewise we will refund all hire bookings that fall during a closure period – should our hire centre be forced to close due to a local or national lockdown.
We will update this website with any changes to services or facilities on site or with any expected changes due to Covid restrictions but for now our retail shop and hire centre both remain open.
