Protest Day 5th October

A day of protest against the planned closure of NRW visitor centres will take place on 5th October 2024 at Coed y Brenin. If you love Coed y Brenin and value it's unique offering then please join us to ride, run, walk and raise your voice. There will be supported rides, walks and trail runs and speakers from 2pm.

The event is being organised by Caru Coed y Brenin, a local community cooperative set up with a view to secure a future for this superb centre and trails in community hands.  You can learn more about the group and follow their progress on their website.

From Caru Coed y Brenin...

We love Coed y Brenin and it makes us very sad when we see the centre under threat, the paths and trails not being maintained and the general indifference of Natural Resources Wales towards those who depend on and use the resource.

I’m sure you’ve been shocked and disappointed to learn of NRW’s plans to close the Coed Y Brenin Visitor Centre for up to 3 years.

Join us in the big Coed Y Brenin Protest to show your objection to the closure and the serious mis-management which has led to this situation. With guest speakers including Liz Saville Roberts and Mabon ap Gwynfor. Come one and all with your banners and your bikes, your walking shoes and placards, your children and most importantly your voice.

Come and show Natural Resources Wales how important Coed Y Brenin is to you.

There will be bike rides and guided fun runs, starting from 12pm with the main event starting at 2pm

Please join us at Coed y Brenin on 5th October

Caru Coed y Brenin's information page about the event is HERE but we will post more when we know.

Whatever assurances are given, there is no certainty. If NRW remove our visitor centres, the trails could well be next. The visitor centres play a vital supporting role in helping many access the outdoors for the good of their health and wellbeing. They make visiting the forest easier, simpler and less intimidating, they make our visits safer and more enjoyable and enhance every part of visitor experience. They provide a hub for our outdoor communities and they bring us all closer together.
We cannot allow NRW to close them.
